Kenya police applauds disciplined citizens during polls

Kenya’s national police service has praised citizens for heeding to calls to remain calm during the election period.

A statement signed police spokesperson, Kinoti George, said the August 8 process had largely gone well in most parts of the country except for minor skirmishes that were dealt with.

‘‘We thank all Kenyans for heeding our call to remain calm and maintain peace through out the electioneering period and all the stakeholders for cooperating with the security agencies.

‘‘We urge all to continue with this spirit in respecting the law and keeping peace for the good of our beloved country,’‘ his statement stressed.

The statement titled ‘STATE OF ONGOING ELECTION VOTING’ concluded by stating that security agents will continue in their roles of enforcing law and helping citizens as and when.

‘‘All the security agencies will continue discharging their duties in strict compliance to the law and will be at hand to render any help as needed by the public,’‘ the statement concluded.

The heavy police deployment ahead of the polls raised issues of the unnecessary show of force but all observer groups have so far given the polls high marks as counting and tallying of results continue.
